
Javier Marías
Javier Marías was born in Madrid on September 20, 1951. He studied philosophy and literature and taught at universities in England, the USA, and Spain. He made his literary debut at the age of twenty with the novel "The Wolf's Den" (1971). He has written eight other novels, including "The Century" (1983), "The Man of Feeling" (1986), "All Souls" (1989), "A Heart So White" (1992), "Tomorrow in the Battle Think on Me" (1994), and "Dark Back of Time" (1998). He has also published collections of short stories and articles in Spanish newspapers, as well as two books dedicated to two of his favorite authors, Faulkner and Nabokov. He has translated works by Hardy, Sterne, Stevenson, Nabokov, Faulkner, Yeats, Conrad, and others into Spanish. His books have been translated into many languages and have achieved great success. In 1977, he was honored with the Nelly Sachs Prize from the city of Dortmund for his body of work. The esteemed German critic Marcel Reich-Ranicki has suggested that he be awarded the Nobel Prize.
