Andreas CH. Panagopoulos

Andreas Panagopoulos (June 1940 - June 2009) was an author and an emeritus professor of Classical Philology at the University of Patras. He graduated with honors in Philology from the University of Athens in 1963. From 1963 to 1965, he completed his military service. In 1966, he became an assistant professor at the University of Athens. Between 1967 and 1974, he resigned from his position due to the dictatorship and taught in private education. In 1974, he earned his Ph.D. from King's College London and returned to the University of Athens in 1975 following the enactment for the Restoration of Legality in Higher Education Institutions of 1974. In 1977, he became a curator and taught at the University of Crete (Rethymno) from 1977 to 1979 on secondment. From 1981 to 1985, he taught at the University of Athens as a lecturer and from 1986 to 1998 as an assistant professor. In 1998, he became a professor at the University of Patras. He collaborated with the International Bibliography Program for Greece (Synopsis) in the classics. After his further training in the "Thesaurus Linguae Graecae" (T.L.G.) at UCI (University of California, Irvine), he taught Greek classical authors using computers (the "Ibycus" project). He trained over 650 colleagues in secondary education and an equal number of his students. Books: 1.
