Alexis N. Dermentzoglou

Alexis Dermentzoglou is a journalist (member of ESHEMTH) and a film critic (member of PEKK). He studied medicine with a specialization in microbiology, but soon journalism and his love for cinema won him over. Since 1988, he has been working at ET3, where he presents the show "Golden Screen" and reviews new films. On the radio station "FM102" of Macedonia, he hosts the show "Cinema and Music." He is the founder, creator, and president of KEMES (Center for Cinema Studies and Research). He writes theoretical, sociological, and research topics related to cinema in the weekly editions of the newspapers "Thessaloniki," "Macedonia," and the monthly magazine "Aulaia." He was a member of the editorial board of the magazine "Screen" and director of "Fix-Carre" (1988-2006). Since 2004, he has maintained the column Medicine and Cinema in the quarterly publication of the Thessaloniki Medical Association "Medical Topics." His literary works include the books: "Stories from American Cinema," "The Great Whirlwind," "The Flight of the Lighter," "Nights with a Full Moon." He participated as an editorial director in the books: "The Best Movies of All Time," "Film Noir," "Comedies." He edited the Thessaloniki Film Festival publication, "Film Noir in Greek Cinema" (2007). He taught at the IEK of ET-3 and the Cultural IEK the courses of Film History and Film Criticism and Television History. He directed the Thessaloniki Municipality's Film Office for 8 years (1986-1994). During this period, nationwide events and high-profile gatherings were organized ("Tribute to Jules Dassin," "Summer Nostalgia," etc.). He was the founder of the Drama Film Club and the inspiration and first director of the Drama Short Film Festival until 1994. He was vice president of the Federation of Film Clubs of Greece (1984-1994). Additionally, he was the first director of the Thessaloniki Cinema Museum (1998-2002). He participated in the jury of the Thessaloniki Film Festival, the Drama Short Film Festival, and the first committee of state awards. He has given and continues to give lectures and presentations at many conferences, while his articles on cinema have been published in numerous publications.
