The French philosopher, journalist, and activist Bernard-Henri Lévy was born in 1948 in Béni Saf, Algeria. He resides in Paris. He was a student of Jacques Derrida and Louis Althusser and collaborated with François Mitterrand during the period from 1973 to 1976. His extensive body of work includes the biography of philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre, "Sartre's Century," and the essay "Reflections on War: Evil and the End of History." He is considered one of the most important contemporary European philosophers.
