Panagiotis Kondylis
Panagiotis Kondylis was born in Ancient Olympia in 1943 and passed away suddenly in Athens in 1998. He studied classical philology at the University of Athens and philosophy, modern history, and political science at the Universities of Frankfurt and Heidelberg. He earned his doctorate in philosophy at Heidelberg. His work was recognized with the Goethe Medal and the Humboldt Prize. Kondylis was a fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Berlin. He directed the "Philosophical and Political Library" series for Gnosi publications and the "Modern European Civilization" series for Nefeli publications. His books in Greek include: "The Critique of Metaphysics in Modern Thought" (1983), "Marx and Ancient Greece" (1984), "The European Enlightenment" I-II (1987), "The Modern Greek Enlightenment" (1988), "Power and Decision" (1991), "The Decline of Bourgeois Culture" (1991), "Planetary Politics after the Cold War" (1992), "Pleasure, Power, Utopia" (1992), among others. Additionally, he authored numerous books in German, such as "Die Entstehung der Dialektik" (1979), "Die Aufklärung" (1981, 2nd ed. 1986), "Macht und Entscheidung" (1984), "Konservativismus" (1986), "Marx und die griechische Antike" (1987), "Theorie des Krieges" (1988), "Die neuzeitliche Metaphysikkritik" (1990), "Der Niedergang der bürgerlichen Denk- und Lebensform" (1991), "Planetarische Politik nach dem Kalten Krieg" (1992), "Montesquieu und der Geist der Gesetze" (1996), "Das Politische und der Mensch. Grundzüge der Sozialontologie" (1999), "Das Politische im 20. Jahrhundert" (2001).
