Al Gore

Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore is the chairman of Current TV, an independent cable and satellite television channel aimed at a young audience, with programming shaped by its viewers. He is also the chairman of Generation Investment Management, a company focused on a new approach to sustainable development. Gore serves on the board of directors of Apple Computer, Inc., and is a senior advisor at Google, Inc. Gore was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1976 and to the Senate in 1984 and 1990, respectively. He was inaugurated as the 45th Vice President of the United States on January 20, 1993, a position he held for eight years. In 2007, the documentary by Davis Guggenheim titled "An Inconvenient Truth" (2006), co-produced by Al Gore, was awarded an Oscar by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. For his initiatives against the threat of global warming, Al Gore was honored with the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, shared with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, live in Nashville, Tennessee; they have four children and two grandchildren. He has authored the books "Earth in the Balance: Ecology and the Human Spirit," "An Inconvenient Truth," "An Inconvenient Truth: For a New Generation" (a young reader's adaptation), and "Assault on Reason," as well as "Joined at the Heart: The Transformation of the American Family" (with Tipper Gore), "The Spirit of Family" (with Tipper Gore), "From Red Tape to Results: Creating a Government That Works Better and Costs Less," "Common Sense Government," and "Businesslike Government: Lessons Learned from America's Best Companies."
