
Bernhard Schlink
Bernhard Schlink was born in 1944 in Bielefeld, Germany, and grew up in Heidelberg and Mannheim. He is a legal scholar and Professor of Public Law, residing in Berlin and New York. A successful author of crime novels—he has already been awarded for two of his books, "The Gordian Knot" and "Selb's Deception"—Schlink surprised critics and readers alike, garnering rave reviews for "The Reader," which became the biggest publishing event of 1995 not only in Germany but also in global literature. The book was translated into 28 languages and adapted into a film directed by Stephen Daldry, titled "The Reader," which won the Oscar for Best Actress for Kate Winslet's performance. His books have been translated into over 50 languages. In May 2002, the President of the French Republic bestowed upon Bernhard Schlink the title of Knight of the Legion of Honor.
