Panagiotis I. Karafotias

Panagiotis I. Karafotias was born and raised in Arcadia. He studied in the United States and France. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Illinois, a Master of Arts in International Relations with honors from New York University, and is a graduate of the Third Cycle of Social and Economic Development from the University of Paris (IEDES). He has worked in both the public and private sectors in significant positions and served for twenty-three years as a Consultant and Managing Director at the United Nations Office for Greece, Cyprus, and Israel. Among other initiatives, he spearheaded the UN's collaboration with Non-Governmental Organizations, particularly with peace movements. Since 2001, he has been a Professor of International Relations (and since 2003, the head of the department) at the University of Indianapolis in Athens. He has authored two scholarly books, "UN: The Great Misunderstood" (Govostis Publications) and "Observations on Critical International and National Issues," as well as six poetry collections titled "Stratokopos" and a prose work, "Stone Consciences." He has been awarded the international IPEKCI prize, as well as the first national award—and a special commendation from the Delphic Amphictyony—for his peace-themed poetry. He has also been honored with a commendation from the magazine Noumas. His poems and prose have been published in magazines such as Nea Estia, Philological New Year's Day, Noumas, Nea Skepsi, Aeolian Letters, Spiritual Life, and some of his poems have been set to music.
