CHristos Mpoulotis

Archaeologist and author. Born on the island of Lemnos in 1952, he studied History, Archaeology, and Comparative Linguistics at the University of Athens. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Würzburg in Germany. He taught at the Ionian University and in the Postgraduate Departments of the University of Athens, as well as at the Athens School of Fine Arts. He conducted excavations in Crete, the Peloponnese, and various islands of the Aegean. In 1985, he was appointed as an archaeologist-researcher at the Academy of Athens, specializing mainly in Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations. He has been systematically involved in children's literature since 1987 and has written approximately sixty books to date. His work "The Strange Love of the Horse and the Poplar" was honored with the European Pier Paolo Vergerio Award in 1989. "The Statue That Was Cold" and "The Watermelon Thief" received the annual award from the Greek section of IBBY in 2000 and 2003, respectively. In 2000 and 2011, his works "The Statue That Was Cold" and "Mr. No's Precious Trash" won the State Award for Children's Literature. In 2006, he was honored with the "Kostas and Eleni Ouranis" award from the Academy of Athens. In 2000, 2007, and 2010, he received the Diavazo magazine award for the books "The Statue That Was Cold," "Mrs. Mina and Spring," and "The Dog Life of John Aftendoulis the Cat." In 2012, his book "A Girl Flutters in Kerameikos - An Anti-War Story in Classical Athens" won the State Knowledge Book Award for Children. He was a nominee for the H. C. Andersen Award in 2012.
