Dimitris Mytaras

Dimitris Mytaras was born in 1934 in Chalkida. He studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts and set design at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. His painting is characterized by dynamic line work and chromatic clarity. Throughout all periods of his painting, there is a pervasive expressionistic atmosphere with a clear inclination towards social critique. His artistic values have a classical structure, and his connection with Greek tradition is evident. The significant periods of his painting include: "Mirrors" (1960-1964), "Dictatorship" (1966-1970), "Funerary" (1971-1976), "Portraits" (1977-1987), and "Theater Scenes" (1988-1991). As a professor at the Athens School of Fine Arts, Dimitris Mytaras exhibited in many world capitals and participated in almost all major Biennales. In the last years of his life, severe health issues prevented him from leaving his home. He passed away on February 16, 2017, at the age of 83.
