Andreas Flourakis

Andreas Flourakis was born in Athens in 1969 and studied film in Athens and playwriting in England. He attended the Playwrights Workshop at the "Theatre of the South - Amore" (2000) and the Playwriting Workshop at the "Royal Court Theatre" (2001), where scenes from his play "The Phoenix and His Chicken" were presented under the supervision of "ATC" director Gordon Anderson. He made his theatrical debut in 2001 with the collective play "Faith" (Theatre of the South). In 2003, he was recognized in the one-act play competition of the Art Theatre, awarded the Fulbright scholarship in 2004, and in 2006, his play "Antelopes" was selected as one of the sixteen best European plays in the JANUS program. In 2008, he received awards in the one-act play competition of the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Rhodes and the International Monodrama Competition 2006-2008 by UNESCO - ITI. His theatrical works have been presented in various venues: "The Days Before You Came" (Theatre of the South), "Her Leaves" (Spring Theatre as part of the Cultural Olympiad), "Blind Trust" (Alekton Theatre), "Kassy" (XIII International Meeting of Ancient Drama in Delphi). His works have been translated into English, French, Italian, Turkish, Romanian, Polish, and Finnish, and have been performed or read at the Royal Court Theatre, Gate Theatre, West Yorkshire Playhouse, and Tristan Bates in the UK, at the Oyun Yaz Festival in Istanbul, the Helsinki Festival, the Comparative Drama Conference, GI60 Festival in the USA, among others. In addition to playwriting, he has published three poetry collections and two novels.
