Maurice Leblanc

Maurice Leblanc was born in 1864 in Rouen, France, and passed away on November 6, 1941. He made his literary debut in 1892, publishing short stories and a serialized novel titled "Une femme" (A Woman) in the magazine "Gil Blas." Subsequently, from 1897 to 1899, he wrote three "analytical novels" ("romans d'analyse"), characterized by "psychologism" ("psychologisme"). In 1907, he introduced his character Arsène Lupin, a gentleman thief with a great sense of humor, who became extremely popular among the Parisian public at the turn of the century, following his exploits in the newspapers. He leads a gang, constantly disguises himself, and consistently outwits the French police and Inspector Ganimard; he never kills. Maurice Leblanc wrote 40-50 books featuring the stories of Arsène Lupin.
