THomas Moschopoulos

Thomas Moschopoulos was born in Bitola, Yugoslavia, in 1965. He studied Philology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Theater at the Drama School of the National Theatre of Northern Greece, and Film at the Laboratorio Internazionale della Communicazione in Udine, Italy. From 2001 to 2008, he served as the co-artistic director, alongside Yannis Houvardas, of the Theatre of the South (Amore Theatre). He has directed TV movies, music videos, and documentaries for television and cinema. His documentary "Meri-Amen" was honored with the State Documentary Film Award and the Golden Knight Award at the Minsk Film Festival in Belarus. In theater, he has directed works such as: "The Venetian" (anonymous 6th century), "Love" by L. Petrushevskaya, "Servants" by Goldoni, "Shopping and Fucking" by M. Ravenhill, "Closer" by P. Marber, "The Cherry Orchard" by Chekhov, "The Turn of the Screw" by H. James (adapted by J. Hatcher), "Much Ado About Nothing" and "Measure for Measure" by Shakespeare, "Double Inconstancy" by Marivaux, "Mainstream" by D. Greig, "Life is a Dream" by Calderón, "So Much Water So Close to Home" by R. Carver, "The Orphan of Zhao" by Ji Junxiang, "Metamorphoses+ inspired by Ovid" (Amore Theatre), "Alcestis" by Euripides at the National Theatre for the Epidaurus Festival (Ancient Drama Award by the Union of Theatre and Music Critics 2009), "Twelfth Night" by Shakespeare, and "What the Butler Saw" by J. Orton at the Aliki Theatre, "The Bacchae" by Euripides, and the theatrical composition "Medusa - Plans and Improvisations for Rafts and Shipwrecks" for the Athens Festival (Koun Award 2011). He has also directed children's plays such as "A Tale for Two" by F. Ridley, "A Story with Stories" by G. Rodari, "The Slave" by Xenia Kalogeropoulou, as well as "Beauty and the Beast," "Noah's Family," "The Deer King," "The Sleeping Beauty Woke Up," "The Lucky Soldier," works he co-wrote with Xenia Kalogeropoulou for the Porta Theatre. He has also directed operas such as "Così fan tutte" by Mozart, "The Turn of the Screw" by B. Britten, "The King Listens" by Nikos Kypourgos (with his own libretto), the theatrical oratorio by A. Honegger "Joan of Arc at the Stake" (Athens Concert Hall), "Tamerlano" by Handel (Athens Festival), "Macbeth" by Verdi (at the Spoleto Festival in Italy, 2002, for which he received the Abbiati Award 2003), and "The Coronation of Poppea" by C. Monteverdi (Italy 2005: Cremona, Como, Ravenna, Mantua). In 2004, he directed the first segment of the Closing Ceremony of the Athens Olympic Games.
