
Dimitrios Mpelantis
Dimitris Belantis was born in Athens in 1964. He has been a practicing lawyer since 1988 and earned his Doctorate in Law in 1995, specializing in Constitutional Law. He has been involved in the leftist and communist movement in Greece for four decades and was a member of the Central Committee of SYRIZA from 2012 until the summer of 2015, when he resigned due to the party's 'shift' in direction. He has been part of at least three leftist organizations/parties. Belantis served as an elected member of the Athens Bar Association's administration from 1998-1999 and again from 2014-2017. He systematically engages with issues of Marxist state theory and the history of the leftist and communist movement. To date, he has published eight books and numerous articles and studies in the leftist daily, periodical, and electronic press since 1995. He has contributed to several collective volumes, such as "Terrorism and Rights" (Savvalas 2004) and "Left Government" (Topos 2013), among others. He has a particular literary interest in the genre of science fiction and has already published two historical-political science fiction or Alternative History novels ("What Would Have Happened If..."), the novel trilogy "Ulrike After the Death of Meinhof," and the standalone novel "Stalin in Kolyma."
