Anastasios M. Tamis

Anastasios M. Tamis has taught at Monash, Melbourne, and La Trobe Universities in Melbourne and was appointed the founding Director of the National Centre for Hellenic Studies and Research at La Trobe University in Melbourne. His work on the status of the Greek language and the history of Hellenism in Oceania and North and South America includes the two-volume History of Greeks in Australia, the first comparative study of Greek migration to Australia and Canada (with Effie Gavaki), the history of Greeks in Canberra, the bilingual edition of the history of Hellenism in Australia, the practical study on Greek settlement in Australia, the migration and settlement of Macedonian Hellenism, the status of the Greek language in Australia and New Zealand (with S. Gauntlett), the Greek ethnolect, and Greek language education in Australia and New Zealand. He has published articles in books and scientific journals on topics such as Cypriot and Greek migration, the exodus of Greeks to overseas countries, and more. He has been honored by the Academy of Athens, Greek and foreign universities, and other institutions.
