Christian Bobin

Christian Bobin, a French author and poet, was born on April 24, 1951, in Le Creusot, Burgundy, France, where he continues to reside—never having left his hometown. He lives in a simple dwelling in a building that once served as a fire station. His parents were workers. A solitary figure from a young age, he preferred the company of books. He was one of those children who stood aside in the schoolyard, observing others. Fragmentary writing, or "the fragment of speech" as he calls it, seems to be his natural element. Novels, personal diaries, and prose poetry, as forms of literary expression, appear either together or separately in his books. His works, characterized by economy and a clear preference for minimalist writing, resemble small paintings composed of moments pieced together like a puzzle. Through his texts, this "homebody," a traveler of the blank page, shows us the world in a way we have forgotten to see.
