Giorgos Gavalas

Giorgos Gavalas (1922-2018) was born in Athens. He was self-taught, having completed only primary education, and later made a living as a freelancer in the fields of leather processing and shoemaking. He published his poems in magazines such as "Elefthera Grammata," "O Aionas Mas," "Themelio," "Neoellinikos Logos," "Philologiki Protochronia," "Foithtiki Foni," "Themata Logotechnias," among others. He released poetry collections including "Paintings from the Distant Forest," published by Logotechniki Gonia in 1949, "Themes for Poetry (1945-1975)," published by Kedros in 1975, "Memories of a Poster," published by Sokoli in 1991, as well as the prose collection "Episodes," also published by Sokoli in 1991. He was a founding member of the Society of Authors and regularly participated in its collective publications, with the last being its "Diary" in 2019. He passed away in Athens in December 2018 at the age of 96.
