Dimitris Karvounis

Dimitris Karvounis was born in Kavala in 1936. That same year, his parents returned to Athens, settling in Peristeri, where he lived until 1966, the year he emigrated to Africa, specifically Johannesburg. There, he worked for the Greek newspapers "Afrikanis" and "Nea Ellas." During this time, he got married and had a son. He stayed in South Africa until 1985, when his wife passed away, prompting his return to Greece, to his family home. He made his literary debut in 1961 with the poetry collection "Respect My Anxiety." In 1963, he published his second poetry collection titled "Discordant Symphony." He remained silent for the next 25 years, and after returning to Greece, he released the prose works "The Decomposition" (1988) and "In Slow Death," the poetry collection "The Moonlight" (1989), the short stories "The Crypt and the Nest," "Lilian," and the poetic composition "My Crucified Spirit." Additionally, together with poet Dimitris Kakalidis, he co-authored the poetic work "Alaloum and Alleluia."
