Eythymios N. Tsigaridas
Euthymios Tsigaridas was born in Vlasti, Kozani, in 1937. He studied history and archaeology at the Faculty of Philosophy of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and theology at the Faculty of Theology of the same university. In 1966, he joined the Archaeological Service of the Ministry of Culture, where he served until 1996, initially as a Curator and later as an Ephor of Byzantine Antiquities. In this capacity, he worked at the Byzantine Museum of Athens, in Epirus, Aetolia-Acarnania, the Ionian Islands, Macedonia, and extensively on Mount Athos. In 1984, he was awarded a doctorate from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and in 1989, he was appointed professor of Christian archaeology and art at the Department of Pastoral and Social Theology of the Faculty of Theology at Aristotle University, a position from which he retired in 2004 as an emeritus professor. His scholarly work is extensive, with numerous publications in Greek and international scientific journals, primarily focusing on Byzantine and post-Byzantine painting. In 1987, he received the Academy of Athens award for his book "The Wall Paintings of the Monastery of Latomou (Hosios David) in Thessaloniki and Byzantine Painting of the 12th Century." He has participated in many conferences and symposia in Greece and abroad.
