Konstantinos P. CHaralampidis

Born on December 4, 1935, in Filiatra, Messinia, to a father from Constantinople and a mother from Thesprotia, Epirus. After completing his primary and secondary education, he studied at the Theological School of Athens, the Pontifical Institute of Christian Archaeology in Rome, and the Faculty of Philosophy in Munich, as a scholarship recipient of the Roman Catholic Church (Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity). He earned his doctorate from the University of Thessaloniki and began his career as a scientific assistant, eventually becoming a full professor of Byzantine Archaeology in the Department of Theology at the same university. He authored: "The Beheading of Martyrs in Historical-Philological Sources and Byzantine Art" (1983, 1990), "Studies in Early Christian Epigraphy" (1984), "The Dendrites in Pre-Christian and Christian Tradition and Iconography" (1986), "Symbolic Representations of Peace and Hope in Early Christian Art of the West" (1990), "Symbolic Representations of Victory in Early Christian Art of the West" (1994), "The Dendrites in Pre-Christian and Christian Historical - Literary Tradition and Iconography" (1995), V. Bychkov's "Byzantine Aesthetics, Theoretical Problems" (translation, 1999), "The Monuments of Ravenna" (2002). He has published numerous articles in scientific journals both domestically and internationally. He frequently participates in scientific conferences both in Greece and abroad. He is a member of the Archaeological Society, the Society of Athens, the Christian Society, the Christian Archaeological Society, the Society of Byzantine Studies, the Societa di Studi Romani, the Collegium Cultorum Martyrum, the Academia Manaua Internationalis, and others. As an Offikialos Archon Maistor of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, he often visits the Phanar for events of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Since 2003, he has been an honorary professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
