Vasos Varikas

Vasos Varikas (1912-1971) was born in Aydin, Asia Minor, and spent his childhood in Karpathos, where his family originated. In 1923, he moved to Athens, where he studied philology. In 1938, he went to France as a correspondent for "Kathimerini" and attended courses in Aesthetics and Art History in Paris for a short period. His journalism career began in 1945, initially at "Ta Nea," where he held positions as a political editor, chief editor, and editorial director, and later at "To Vima" (1954), where he regularly contributed to the book review column. Simultaneously, from 1955, he took on theater criticism at "Ta Nea" and served for several years as the head of the news bulletin and a literary collaborator for E.I.R. For a decade, he was the general secretary of the Committee for the State Awards. His works include: "The Poet Kostas Varnalis" (1936), "K. G. Karyotakis, the Drama of a Generation" (1938), "Our Post-War Literature" (1939). He contributed to magazines such as: Political Pages, Redemption, Literary Chronicles, Literary New Year, New Era. Posthumously, the following works were published: "Theater Criticism (1961-1971)," 1972, "Authors and Texts (1961-1965)," 1975, and his studies on K. Varnalis and K. G. Karyotakis were reissued in the series "Theory of Literature and Criticism."
