Antonios (Anastasios) Romaios

Hieromonk Antonios (Anastasios) Romaios was born in 1932 in Kallithea. While studying at the Theological School of the University of Athens, he worked for three years as a trainee stenographer at the Stenographic Service of the Hellenic Parliament. He resigned to pursue monastic life. During his novitiate, he served in the military and, upon discharge, was tonsured a monk at the Holy Monastery of Longovarda in Paros, where he remained for nine years, serving as a novice, monk, deacon, and priest. In 1961, he left the monastery and served as a parish priest in the Holy Metropolis of Thira, in Athens, Attica, England, Africa, the Holy Metropolis of Thebes and Livadeia, and the Holy Metropolis of Paronaxia. Due to health issues, he retired and took residence at the Holy Monastery of Saint Gregory on Mount Athos in 1994. During this time, he served as Secretary of the Office of External Mission of the Apostolic Ministry of the Church of Greece (1968-1975). He collaborated with "Etoimasia" Publications on their initial works while serving at the Holy Monastery of Saint John Kareas in the Sacred Mystery of Repentance and Confession and in the formation of the monastic and missionary identity of the Brothers (36 years). He has published several dozen articles in newspapers and magazines. His books "Drops from the Roof Tiles" and "Apprenticeship at the Cross" are available from "En Plo" Publications.
