
Giorgos Georgis
Giorgos Georgis was born in Paralimni, Cyprus, in 1946 and graduated from the Boys' High School of occupied Famagusta. He holds a degree and a doctorate from the Department of History and Archaeology of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Athens. He was the first general secretary of the Pan-Cyprian Federation of Students and Young Scientists (POFNE). He taught in secondary schools in Cyprus and Greece. From 1976 to 1982, he worked at the Press and Information Office of the Republic of Cyprus and subsequently served as the Cultural Attaché of Cyprus in Greece from 1982 to 1994 and 1997 to 2000. He was the founder and first director of the House of Cyprus in the Greek capital (1987-1994, 1997-2000). From 1994 to 1997, he was a visiting research associate at King's College London and a research associate at the Cyprus Research Center. As an associate professor of Modern Greek History in the Department of History and Archaeology at the University of Cyprus, he systematically engages with the Political and Diplomatic History of the Greek State, the History of the Cypriot National Movement, the Political History of the Republic of Cyprus from 1959 to 1974, and the diplomat Seferis. He has been honored with the Order of the Phoenix of the Hellenic Republic and received an honorable mention from the Rectorate of the University of Athens. He has authored 12 books and numerous articles in collective volumes and journals. From 2005 to 2009, he served as the Ambassador of Cyprus to Greece, with concurrent accreditation to Romania, Bulgaria, and Albania.
