Christian Jacq

Christian Jacq became a successful author the day, as he puts it, "the world of the writer merged with that of the Egyptologist. From that day on, the general public became interested in my work." Born in Paris in 1947, at the age of thirteen, he read a work that would change his life: the three-volume "History of Ancient Egyptian Civilization" by Jacques Pirenne. The young Christian was already writing poems, and this book became the inspiration for his first novel. Over the next five years, he wrote eight novels and a libretto! At the age of seventeen, he got married and embarked on his honeymoon following the traces of his dream, mythical Egypt: the first stop was Memphis... He published his first book at the age of twenty-one, an essay on the relationship between the Middle Ages and ancient Egypt. He studied Egyptology at the Sorbonne, where he also completed his doctoral thesis, and began his academic career in 1986. Above all, however, Christian Jacq wants to write: he has published more than twenty essays, has been awarded by the French Academy, and simultaneously worked as a radio producer, creating the series "The Paths of Knowledge" for France Culture. His major literary success came in 1987 with the work "Champollion the Egyptian." This was the beginning of a series of books, all of which refer to ancient Egypt. A passionate researcher, he studies, deciphers, and brings to life a world that is both real and novel each time. His works have been translated into more than twenty-four languages, and he is the only French author on the list of the fifteen best-selling authors worldwide.
