Hermann Hesse

Herman Hesse was born in 1877 in Calw, Württemberg, a small town in the Black Forest. He made his literary debut in 1899 with the poetry collection "Romantic Songs" and the prose collection "A Hour After Midnight." Numerous works followed, establishing him as one of the most popular authors of the 20th century: "Peter Camenzind" (1904), "Beneath the Wheel" (1906), "Gertrude" (1910), "Demian" (1914), "Siddhartha" (1927), "Steppenwolf" (1927), "Narcissus and Goldmund" (1930), "Journey to the East" (1932), among others. He was the founder of the magazine "Vinos Voco," a member of the Prussian Academy, an honorary doctor of the University of Bern, and was honored with numerous awards, including the Nobel Prize in 1946 and the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade in 1955. He passed away in 1962.
