Carl R. Rogers

Carl R. Rogers
Carl Rogers (1902-1987), a renowned American professor, psychotherapist, and author, is considered a representative of the humanistic school, the third major school in psychology (alongside Freud and the behaviorists). He is the founder of the phenomenological approach to psychology and co-founder (with Maslow) of humanistic psychology. A pioneer in separating psychotherapeutic and counseling work from psychoanalysis, he developed and introduced psychotherapy and counseling that caused significant disruptions and shifts in the therapeutic establishment. His personality, the rigor of his scientific research, and the authorship of 16 particularly original books and over 200 scientific articles justify his significant influence in the field of psychology. During his lifetime, Rogers was elected to important positions and honored with numerous awards and distinctions.
