Evangelos Spandagos was a graduate of the Mathematics Department of the University of Athens. He served for 28 years in Secondary Education, with his last years at the Experimental School of the University of Athens. He managed the physics-mathematics bookstore and publishing house "Aithra." He authored 140 books on mathematics, literature, and history. Spandagos published numerous articles in newspapers and magazines about the sciences (mathematics, astronomy, physics, chemistry, medicine) in Ancient Greece. Since May 2000, he has made ancient Greek mathematical and astronomical literature accessible to the modern Greek public by presenting, for the first time in modern Greece, 30 previously unknown works of Ancient Greek mathematicians and astronomers. He also conducted research in libraries of Arab countries to locate lost works of Ancient Greek mathematicians and astronomers preserved in Arabic manuscripts. Since 1980, he published two poetry collections titled "Essential Discontinuities" and "Indeterminate Forms with Indefinite Integrals," and four short story collections titled "Inverse Mappings," "Bloody Theorems," "Indeterminate Approximations," and "In a Broad Sense." In June 1997, he was awarded in Paris by the World Group for the Study of Ancient Civilizations for his work related to the lost works of ancient Greek scientists. Specifically, he was recognized for discovering the lost work "Meteorology" by Diogenes of Apollonia in the University Library of Patna, India. In December 2000, he was awarded by the Academy of Athens for his book "The Life and Work of Constantin Carathéodory." In April 2002, his hometown, Rethymno, honored him for his rich and diverse literary work and his overall contribution to the dissemination of Ancient Greek Science. In August 2002, the Municipality of Desfina (Itea) awarded him the city's golden emblem. In December 2004, he was awarded by the Society of Greek Philologists. In June 2005, he was awarded by the Municipality of Chalandri. In November 2005, he was awarded by the Experimental School of the University of Athens. In August 2007, he was awarded for the second time by the Municipality of Rethymno. In October 2007, he received the highest honorary Lionistic distinction (Melvin Jones Fellowship). In December 2007, he was awarded for the second time by the Academy of Athens for his work related to the sciences in Ancient Greece. In January 2008, he was awarded by the Association of Cretan Scientists. In January 2009, he won the first prize in the Panhellenic Short Story Competition from the Union of Greek Writers. In August 2009, he was awarded by the community of Ancient Eleutherna in the Rethymno region. In October 2009, he was awarded by the Union of Greek Physicists. In November 2009, he was awarded by the Panhellenic Society of Astronomy and Space. In December 2009, he won the first prize in the Panhellenic Poetry Competition from the Union of Greek Writers. In January 2010, he was awarded the First Class Gold Medal of Spiritual Merit by the Union of Greek Writers. In April 2010, he was awarded by the Municipality of Nea Vyssa in the Evros region. Since 1999, he has been presenting radio and television programs on the sciences in Ancient Greece. He hosted a permanent weekly show titled "Όπερ έδει ποιήσαι" on the "High" TV channel in Attica, featuring discussions on the sciences and more. He is the General Secretary of the World Association for the Promotion of Ancient Greek Mathematics, a regular member of the Union of Greek Writers, a regular member of the Union of Cultural Editors of Athens, an honorary member of the Society of Greek Philologists, a founding member of the Panhellenic Union of Mathematicians, President of the Friends of the Museum of Natural Sciences and Technology, and a member of the "Greek Language Heritage" Association.
