
Roger Peyrefitte
Roger Peyrefitte was born in Castres in 1907. He studied at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Toulouse and the School of Political Science, from which he graduated in 1930. Between 1933 and 1938, he served as the secretary of the French Embassy in Athens. In 1945, he retired from diplomatic service and began his literary career.
In his novels and short stories, he depicted the scandalous customs of certain circles he encountered during his diplomatic career. Among his works are: "Les amitiés particulières" (1944), "Les ambassades" (1951), which is set in Athens with a focus on the French Embassy, "La fin des ambassades" (1953), "Les fils de la lumière" (1961), "Des français" (1970), "L'enfant de cœur" (1978), as well as the fictional biography of Alexander the Great (Alexandre le Grand, 1977-1981).
