Feride Çiçekoglu

Feride Çiçekoğlu was born in Ankara in 1951. She studied in the United States and, upon returning to Turkey, was imprisoned for four years until 1984 by the Evren dictatorship. Her time in prison inspired her to write her first novel, "Don't Shoot the Kite," which was adapted into a film and won a screenplay award in Turkey and at Cannes. Since then, she has written numerous screenplays. The film "Journey of Hope" won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 1991. "The Other Side of the Water," which was also adapted into a film, received the İPEKÇİ Award.
