Savvas Paylou

Savvas Pavlou (1951-2016) was born in Nicosia. He studied philology at the University of Athens and completed his doctorate at the University of Cyprus (his dissertation was titled "Seferis and Cyprus"). He worked as a philologist in Cyprus's secondary education system. In September 2000, he was appointed as an inspector of philological subjects, and in September 2004, he became the first education officer. One of the most important scholars of George Seferis's work, besides his dissertation, which was published in 2005, he was a scientific collaborator on Andreas Pantzis's documentaries about Seferis titled "Camera Properly Adjusted" (2004) and "Seferis in the Land of Eclipse" (2007). He was a co-editor of the magazine "Microphilological." His writings have been published in magazines and newspapers in Greece ("Nea Estia," "Anti," "Ardin," "Kathimerini," etc.) and Cyprus ("Akti," "Simerini," "Politis," "Ta Nea," etc.). He passed away on April 6, 2016, at the age of 65, after battling cancer.
