Michalis A. Tiverios

Michalis A. Tiverios was born in Chora, Andros, in 1947. He studied at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Thessaloniki and earned his doctorate from the institution in 1976. He furthered his studies at the Archaeological Institute of Bonn as a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (1977-1979). Since 1975, he has been working at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and in 1986, he was appointed Professor of Classical Archaeology in the Department of History and Archaeology. He has served as the head of this department and the director of its postgraduate studies. He leads excavations in ancient settlements near present-day Sindos and Karabournaki in Thessaloniki. He is a member of numerous scientific committees, organizations, and institutions, such as the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (Academia Scientiarum et Atrium Europaea) and the German Archaeological Institute in Berlin. He has been honored by scientific institutions, including the University of Bern, which awarded him an honorary doctorate.
