Aleksei Nikolaievich Tolstoi

Alexei Nikolaevich Tolstoy was born on January 10, 1883, in the city of Nikolaevsk. In 1901, he entered the St. Petersburg Technological Institute. In 1907, he published his first verses. In 1908, he published the short story "The Old Tower" in the magazine Niva. His best works—the historical novel "Peter the First," the trilogy "The Road to Calvary," and the novellas "The Bread" and "Ivan the Terrible"—made a valuable contribution to the national culture and the art of the socialist era. He served as a deputy in the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and was an academician. He was honored with the "Order of Lenin," the "Order of the Red Banner of Labor," and the "Medal of Honor." His works were awarded the "Stalin Prize" three times. He passed away on February 23, 1945.
