Vasilis Katsikonouris

Vasilis Katsikonouris was born in 1960 in Kilkis. He has been living in Athens since he was twelve years old. He studied English Philology at the University of Athens and works as a teacher in Secondary Education. In 1990, he wrote his first play, "Completely Undignified," which was awarded at the International Competition of the Onassis Foundation about ten years later, in 2001, and was presented in 2004 at the Stoa Theater, directed by Yiannis Anastasakis (P. Orkopoulos, Eva Kaminari, Th. Papageorgiou, Eud. Souvatzi, P. Polykarpou, Il. Katevas, Eir. Cheliou, D. Theodorou, Al. Kouros). In the same year, his play "California Dreamin'" (First State Prize for Playwriting 2002) was presented at the National Theater's Experimental Stage, directed by Takis Tzamargias, featuring Demosthenes Eleftheriadis, Stathis Mantzoros, Evi Saulidou, and Katerina Fotiadi. Previously, in 1999 and 2002, his plays "Thin Line" and "Babushka" were presented by the Quanta Group, respectively. In 2006, he received the Third State Prize for Playwriting for "The Jersey," and in February of the same year, his play "The Milk" began performances at the National Theater (New Stage - Chora Theater), directed by N. Mastorakis, continuing into the next season. His works have been presented in Germany (2006, European Playwrights Festival, Wiesbaden, Frankfurt), Belgrade (2008-09-10, Belgrade Drama Theatre), Warsaw (2009-10, Kamienica Theatre), and Cyprus (2007-2009 Open Theatre, Dionysos Theatre, and 2009-10 Epigoni Theatre). In 2011, the film "The Milk," based on his play of the same name (Kedros, 2006) and screenplay by the author, was released (Directed by Giorgos Siougas). In 2013, he directed the monologue "The Event" by John Clancy at the Simeo Theatre, and in 2015, he directed Iakovos Kambanellis' monologues "A Festive Speech and a Funeral Oration" at the "Stathmos" Theatre, and in 2018, the performance "Telling the Stories AGAIN," with teenage students, their parents, and their teachers. His other activities include music composition and songwriting. Among other works, he composed the music for the play "Thin Line" and participated in the music for the play "Babushka." He also collaborates occasionally with the magazine "Mandragoras."
