Giorgos-Ikaros Mpampasakis
Giorgos-Ikaros Babassakis was born in April 1960. He is a poet, translator, and author. Since the late 1970s, he began writing for publications such as Leonidas Christakis' "Ideodromio" and Vangelis Kotronis' "Snow White," composing poems and prose. His writings have been published in magazines like "Odos Panos," "Ihos," "Kappa," "Lexi," "Poliorkia," and others. He collaborated for ten years with the newspaper "Eleftherotypia" and the magazine "Epsilon." He maintained the book page in the newspaper "City-Press." His lifestyle led him to systematically study the so-called "historical avant-gardes" (Futurism, Dada, Surrealism), the Beat poets and writers, as well as the movement for the "transcendence and realization of Art" (Cobra, Lettrists, Situationists). The result of these pursuits is his much-discussed books on William S. Burroughs, the Internationale Situationniste, Guy Debord, and May '68. He founded and directed the review "Propaganda," where critical texts on the politics and culture of our times were published. He has worked in Greek radio, specifically on the Second Program, ERA4, En Lefko, Kokkino 105.5, and Kanal 1 Piraeus 90.4. Today, he directs the series "Sudden Documentaries" at Gavriilidis Publications and the literary magazine/project "KOREKT," along with poet Thanos Stathopoulos, at Nefeli Publications. He is a member of the Circle of Poets and the Society of Authors.
