Andrée Chedid

French novelist and poet, of Lebanese descent (Cairo, 1920 - Paris, 2011). Raised in a pro-European environment, she studied at the American University in Cairo. From 1946 until her death, she lived in France with her French doctor husband and their two children. She was awarded the Goncourt Prize for short stories in 1979 for her collection "Le Corps et le temps," and the Goncourt Prize for poetry in 2002, as well as the title of Grand Officier de la Légion d'honneur in 2009. She passed away in Paris on February 6, 2011, at the age of 90.
