Vagelis CHatzigiannidis

Vangelis Hatziyannidis was born in 1967 in Serres. He completed his studies at the Athens Law School and the Veaki Drama School. He worked for three years as an actor in productions by Theodoros Terzopoulos, Pepi Oikonomopoulou, Yiannis Tsarouchis, Minos Volanakis, Stamatis Fasoulis, and the Theatrical Organization Morfes. He resides in Ano Pefki. His first book, "The Four Walls," published in 2000, received the debut fiction writer award from the magazine "Diavazo." It was translated into Italian (Crocetti Editore 2002), French (Albin Michel 2003), Spanish (Editiones Tempora 2004), English (Marion Boyars 2006), and Portuguese (Babel 2010). In France, it won the "Laure Bataillon" award ("the best foreign book of the year in the best translation") jointly with his translator Michel Volkovitch, while in England, it was shortlisted for the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize 2007. His second novel, "The Guest" (To Rodakio), was released in 2004 and also published in English by Marion Boyars under the title "Stolen Time." The one-act play "Disguise" (Ianos, 2004) was first presented in the program of theatrical monologues of the Cultural Olympiad in 2003, directed by Katerina Evangelakou, with Rania Oikonomidou as the performer. The play "La Poupée" was staged at the Kefallinia Street Theatre (2008) and the Serres Municipal and Regional Theatre (2012), and the play for teenagers "Light on the Screen" (To Rodakio, 2011) was staged at the Onassis Cultural Centre, directed by Sofia Vgenopoulou. His prose works include the short story collection "Natural Stories" (To Rodakio, 2006) and the novel "The Minimal Trace" (To Rodakio, 2013), which was funded by the Greek-French author support program EKEVI-CNL, 2012-2013. His short stories have been included in thematic anthologies and published in the press and literary magazines.
