Miguel Delibes

Miguel Delibes was born on October 17, 1920, in Valladolid, Spain, and passed away in his hometown on March 12, 2010, at the age of 89. A Spanish novelist and one of the most prominent figures in post-civil war literature in Spain, he was a member of the Royal Spanish Academy from 1975 until his death. A highly acclaimed author, Miguel Delibes won the National Literature Prize twice (in 1954 and 1966), the Critics' Prize (1962), and the National Narrative Prize (1999). In 1993, he was honored with the highest distinction, the Cervantes Prize. He wrote over sixty books, many of which have been adapted for theater and film. His work has been translated into more than thirty languages.
