Konstantinos G. Nichoritis

Konstantinos G. Nichoritis (Kallithea Thivon, 1955), a full professor at the University of Macedonia in the Department of Balkan, Slavic, and Oriental Studies, is a graduate of the Athonias Ecclesiastical School and studied Theology at the Theological School of Sofia. He pursued postgraduate studies focusing on medieval Slavic language and literature, as well as the history and culture of the Slavs. He holds a Ph.D. in Slavic Philology and Literature from the University and the Academy of Sciences of Sofia (1987). He specialized in Old Church Slavonic, paleography, and Slavic studies, and continued with postdoctoral studies in Balkanology, focusing on the period of Ottoman rule. He earned his habilitation at the University of Veliko Tarnovo in Bulgaria with a dissertation titled: "Mount Athos and the Bulgarian New Martyrs (Mount Athos as a Deterrent to the Spread of Islam in the Balkans)." His works include: "Atonskata knizovna tradicija v razprostranenieto na Kyrillometodievskite izvori" ("The Athonite Literary Tradition and the Dissemination of Sources on Saints Cyril and Methodius") (1990), "The Saints Cyril and Methodius (Their Struggles and Work for the Integration of the Slavs into Byzantine Culture and Greek Letters)" (2000), "Sveta gora Aton i Bahlgarskoto Novomahchenichestvo" (2001).
