Anta Katsiki - Givalou

Ada Katsiki-Givalou was born in Athens. She studied philology at the University of Athens. In 1969, she began her postgraduate studies at the "Modern Greek Institute of the Sorbonne" in Paris, and in 1973, she earned her Doctorat 3ème cycle from the University Paris III of the Sorbonne in comparative literature. The subject of her dissertation was "L'influence des chants populaires sur la langue et sur la poésie de Palamas" ("The influence of folk songs on the language and poetry of Palamas"), Paris 1972. From 1972 to 1986, she worked as a researcher at the Research Center of the Historical Dictionary of the Greek Language of the Academy of Athens. Concurrently, for two years (1980-1982), she taught at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Ioannina as a special scientist, covering the history of modern Greek literature and the analysis of modern Greek texts. Since 1986, she has been a professor—and since 2013, an emeritus professor—of modern Greek philology at the University of Athens in the Department of Primary Education, where she taught modern Greek philology and children's literature. Her scientific, writing, and research work focuses on issues of modern Greek poetry (topics of poetic art and criticism, 19th and 20th centuries). In the field of literature for children and young people, she deals with historical topics, issues of thematology, stylistics of contemporary texts for children and young people, the relationship between literature and education, as well as the promotion of reading.
