Joanne K. Rowling was born in Bristol in 1965. She began writing the story of "Harry Potter" during very difficult times. "Harry Potter" became a publishing phenomenon. The translation rights were sold worldwide and the awards followed one after another: three Nestlé Smarties Awards, Guardian, Sheffield, ABBY, Whitbread, Locus, Hugo, among others. The author was named British Author of the Year in 2000 and was honored for her entire body of work in 2008.The "Harry Potter" films also broke box office records wherever they were shown.
