Giannis Ragos

Giannis Rangos was born in 1966 in Athens, where he currently resides. For many years, he has worked as a salaried or freelance journalist for magazines, newspapers, radio stations, television shows, documentaries, and blogs/sites, covering a wide range of reports (shipping, general, artistic, travel, political, investigative, etc.). From 1987 to 1998, he was the Press Officer for the Athens and Epidaurus Festivals, and from 2001 to 2018, he conducted research and wrote texts for the printed and electronic tourist-travel guides of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO). His journalistic investigations have been adapted into literature (Giorgos Polyrakis, "Dorothea de Rop - Passion and Pride," Psychogios 2010) and included in historical publications (Kostas Papaioannou, "Greece Never Dies...," Kastaniotis Editions 2008 and Paolo Ciampi, "The Caravan at the Bottom of the Sea," Chrysí Tomí / AΩ Editions 2014) and scientific treatises (Natalia Ilia, "People Next Door," Ocelotos 2010 and Panagiotis G. Papaioannou, "Serial and Mass Murderers - The Greek Example," Nomiki Bibliothiki 2013). He has authored the investigative journalism books "The Mine: The Gorgopotamos Case, November 1964" (Entos, 2000) and "Forgotten Headlines" (Polaris Editions, 2016), the texts for the travel-historical guides "Athens-Attica" (non-commercial edition, GNTO, 1st edition 2004) and "Thessaloniki" (non-commercial edition, GNTO, 1st edition 2015), and the crime novels "The Fetal Position" (Indiktos, 2005) and "It Smells Like Blood" (Indiktos, 2008). His crime short stories have been published in collective volumes such as "Entrance of Danger" (Metaichmio, 2011), "Greek Crimes 4" (Kastaniotis Editions, 2011), "Cops and Robbers" (Psychogios, 2013), "The Place Betrayed the Guilty" (Topos, 2014), and "BalkaNoir" (Kastaniotis, 2018), which he also coordinated and edited with author Vasilis Danellis, in newspapers and magazines, and have been broadcast on the radio show "Cops and Robbers on 902" (2008-2010). Additionally, his essays on crime literature have been included in special press tributes, as well as in the commemorative edition "18 Texts for Yannis Maris" (Patakis Editions, 2016). From 2006 to 2011, he curated the crime literature series Verba Obscura for Indiktos Editions, from 2016 to 2017 he was a member of the editorial team of "The Crimes and Letters Magazine" (CLM), and since 2018 he has been a member of the editorial team of the crime literature theory magazine "polar." He participated in the scriptwriting team of the TV crime series "Traces" (MEGA, 2007-2008), and has collaborated on writing film scripts, as well as texts (with author Yannis Zevgolis) for the theatrical performances "RoadTrip2" (Kinitiras Studio, 2012) and "RoadTrip3" (Kinitiras Studio, 2015), directed by Violetta Gyra. Moreover, with author Demosthenes Papamarkos, he adapted the script for the graphic novel "Erotokritos" (Polaris Editions, 2016), illustrated by Giorgos Gousis, which won five awards (Best Comic, Best Design, Best Artistic Direction, Best Script, and Best Cover) at the Greek Comic Awards 2017, as well as for the comic "In the Secrets of the Swamp" (Polaris Editions, 2018), illustrated by Panagiotis Pantazis. Since 2017, he has been a member of the editorial team of the comic magazine "Blue Comet." She is a regular member of the Union of Magazine and Electronic Press Journalists (ESPIT) and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), a founding member of the Hellenic Crime Writers Club (ELSAL), and a member of the International Association of Crime Writers (IACW).
