Giorgos Polyrakis

George Polyrakis was born in Sfakia, Crete, where he completed his primary education. While still in high school, he became involved in journalism and wrote two plays that were performed in school productions. He wrote another play as a university student, which was performed by students during student week. He graduated in Medicine from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he also earned his doctorate. Today, he works as a surgeon in Thessaloniki. He has published eighty-three scientific papers in Greek and international medical journals, made dozens of presentations at medical conferences, and participated in organizing many conferences. He is a member of the Hellenic Surgical Society of Northern Greece, the Medical Society of Thessaloniki, the Society of Physician Writers, and the Society of Writers of Northern Greece, and has served as a member of the International College of Surgeons. In 1994, his first novel, "Redemption," was published. In 1995, he released his second book, "School Memories." A year later, his second novel, "That Moment," was released with great success by Psichogios Publications. In December 1998, "Dancing in Silence" was published, which was immediately loved by the reading public, honored with the Prose Award by the Hellenic Society of Christian Letters, and ranked high on the bestseller lists of many newspapers and magazines. His book "Meeting with Yesterday" (Psichogios Publications) is also available, which was awarded the First Novel Prize by the "Parnassos" Literary Society.
