Ioannis K. Karakostas

Professor Ioannis K. Karakostas was born in Chalkida in 1943. He studied law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Athens, from which he graduated in 1966. He speaks German, English, and Italian. In 1968, he was admitted to the Athens Bar Association and has since practiced as a lawyer, appearing before both the Supreme Court and the Council of State. In 1973, he was awarded a doctorate from the Faculty of Law at the University of Regensburg in Germany. In 1983, he was appointed Professor of Civil Law at the University of Athens. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students in Civil Law (General Principles, Property Law, and Special Contracts Law), Consumer Protection Law, Personality and Media Protection Law, and Environmental Protection Law. He also serves as a Visiting Professor at the University of the Aegean and Harokopio University, where he teaches Environmental Law. Professor Ioannis Karakostas is the Secretary of the Hellenic Society of Civil Law, a Member of the European Law Association, as well as a Member of the Procedural Law Association and the Society of Judicial Studies. Additionally, he is the President of the Society of Euboean Studies. Ioannis Karakostas served as the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics, and Political Sciences at the University of Athens from 2000 to 2003, and since 2003, he has been the President of the Faculty of Law at the University of Athens. Since September 2006, he has been the Vice-Rector for Student Welfare, Culture, and International Relations at the University of Athens.
