Amanta - Aliki Maravelia
Amanda-Aliki Maravelia is an Egyptologist and archaeoastronomer. She earned a degree in Physics (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 1988: Very Good) and completed her first PhD in Astronomy (University of Athens & National Observatory of Athens, 1997: Excellent). She pursued her second PhD (Doctorat NR: Tres Honorable et avec Felicitations du Jury) in Egyptology/Archaeoastronomy (University of Limoges, Centre des Recherches en Sciences de l'Antiquite, France, 2004). Her specialization lies in the religious/astronomical/cosmogonic texts of the ancient Egyptians and their comparative study with the Orphic Hymns and contemporary cosmological ideas. This dissertation (Les Astres dans les Textes Religieux en Egypte Antique et dans les Hymnes Orphiques Helleniques) was published in 2006 as a book by an international publishing house (Oxford, British Archaeological Reports, BAR 1527). She is a member of several organizations, including the International Association of Egyptologists, the European Association of Archaeologists, the Societe Europeenne pour l'Astronomie dans la Culture, the International Society for Archaeoastronomy and Astronomy in Culture (ISAAC), the Hellenic Society for Aesthetics, and the Panhellenic Shooting Society, among others. She worked as a Scientific Collaborator and Researcher at the Center for Egyptology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (CES/RAS) in Moscow. In 2011, she founded the Hellenic Institute of Egyptology in Greece (under the auspices of the ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria, with the blessings of His Beatitude the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Theodoros II). The H.I.E. is a high-standard research institution operating as a non-profit organization, supported by prominent figures in the fields of Archaeology, Science, and Letters, with collaborators and founding members from Egypt, Germany, France, and Russia. Its purpose is to secure resources exclusively for: (a) research programs in the fields of Egyptology, Archaeology, Archaeoastronomy, Archaeoanthropology, and interdisciplinary studies of the ancient major civilizations of the Mediterranean, and (b) popularizing Egyptology to the general public and the student youth. The H.I.E. is also under the auspices of the significant and historic Municipality of Epidaurus (Argolis), during the mayoralty of Konstantinos Gkatzios. Ms. Maravelia also collaborates with Greek Museums for the publication of Egyptian antiquities (National Archaeological Museum of Athens, Benaki Museum: for which she is preparing the Catalogue Raisonné of ancient Egyptian faience), as well as with foreign researchers in the field of Egyptology and Archaeoastronomy. She has published many original works (>60) and books and has been the editor-in-chief of six (so far) volumes of the international series British Archaeological Reports (BAR Series 1052, 1154, 1218, 1448, 1960, & c.).
