Athanasios D. Paliouras

The Emeritus Professor of Archaeology at the University of Ioannina, Thanasis Paliouras, originally from Agrinio, has been walking the paths of historical and archaeological research for many years. He explores Byzantine and post-Byzantine courtyards, among ruined cities, historic roads, pirate seas, rugged caves, and both renowned and humble monuments. He visits both famous and anonymous painters, reads inscriptions, studies frescoes and portable icons, and venerates miraculous Madonnas from Proussos to Venice, Mount Athos, Constantinople, Sinai, Jerusalem, and Cappadocia. Through excavations, he travels back in time and revives Byzantine civilization. From an early age, he also developed a love for poetry and crafted short prose pieces. Within him, the archaeologist and the writer have been in a lifelong struggle.
