Manolis A. Triantafyllidis

Manolis A. Triantafyllidis (Athens, 1883-1959) was a linguist and advocate of the demotic language, and one of the most significant figures in promoting language education reforms in Greece during the first half of the 20th century. He studied at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Athens and at various universities in Germany, where he stayed between 1905-1912. His efforts to establish the demotic language in education, through the Educational Association (where he served as the director of its newsletter between 1913-1921), the governments of Eleftherios Venizelos (1917-1920), the Pedagogical Academy, and later, the Chair of Linguistics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1926-1934), resulted in his two major works, "Modern Greek Grammar, Vol. A: Historical Introduction," 1938, and "Modern Greek Grammar (of Demotic)," 1941.
