David Harvey

David Harvey was born in 1935 in Gillingham, Kent, England. He is a Distinguished Professor of Anthropology at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, where he has been teaching since 2001. Prior to this, he served as a Professor of Geography at Johns Hopkins University in the USA and at the University of Oxford. His book "The Condition of Postmodernity" was hailed by the "Independent" newspaper as one of the fifty most important theoretical works written since World War II. Among his recent books are: "The New Imperialism" (Kastaniotis Editions, 2006), "A Brief History of Neoliberalism" (Kastaniotis Editions, 2007), "A Companion to Marx's Capital," and "Paris: Capital of Modernity." His lectures on Marx's "Capital" have been downloaded by hundreds of thousands of users since they were posted on the City University website in mid-2008. He was awarded the Patron's Medal by the Royal Geographical Society in 1995 and was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2007. He is the most cited geographer in the world.
