Iraklis Millas

Hercules Millas was born in 1940 in Turkey and lived in Istanbul until 1971, after which he has resided in Greece. He is a political scientist, civil engineer, and translator of literary texts. He graduated from Robert College and holds a Ph.D. in political science from Ankara University. He worked as an engineer in Turkey, Greece, and various Arab countries. He translated and published the complete works of G. Seferis and K. Cavafy into Turkish, as well as works by other Greek poets and novelists. From 1991 to 1994, he contributed to the establishment of the Department of Modern Greek Studies at Ankara University and taught there. He also taught Turkish literature at the University of the Aegean. He has published studies on Greek-Turkish relations, Turkish historiography, school textbooks, Turkish literature, and national stereotypes. The image of the Greek in Turkish literature was the subject of his doctoral dissertation.
