
Paul Cartledge
Paul Cartledge studied at the University of Oxford, where he earned his degree and doctorate by completing a dissertation on the archaeology and history of early Sparta under the supervision of Professor Sir John Boardman. He is a Professor of Greek History at the Faculty of Classics at the University of Cambridge, where he has been teaching since 1979, and he is also the Director of Classical Studies at Clare College, Cambridge. Additionally, he serves on the editorial boards of the journals "Dialogos," "International History Review," and "History of Political Thought." He has written, published, and contributed to numerous books in his field. Among his most recent works are: "The Greeks: A Portrait of Self and Others" (1997), "Democritus" (1998), "Political Thought in Ancient Greece: Elite and Mass from Homer to Plutarch," "The Spartans," "Spartan Reflections," "Alexander the Great: The Hunt for a New Past," and "The Cambridge Illustrated History of Ancient Greece."
He is a co-editor of two monograph series, a member of the editorial boards of three academic journals, and an ancient history consultant for the publishing house Duckworth. He is a member of the London Hellenic Society and has been honored with the Gold Cross of the Order of Honor by the President of the Hellenic Republic.
