Eleni Giannakaki

Eleni Giannakaki was born in 1955 in Rethymno. She studied at the Universities of Athens and London (King’s College), where she submitted her doctoral thesis on Greek modernism. She has taught Modern Greek literature at the University of Crete (1991-1993) and the University of Oxford (1997-2011). She has published articles and studies in both Greek and English on issues related to 20th-century Modern Greek prose. Her first novel, "On Appetite and Other Evils" (Estia, 2001), was awarded the Debut Author Prize by the magazine "Diavazo" in 2002. Her novel "The Cherubs of the Carpet" (Estia, 2006) was nominated for the Prix Mediterranee Etranger in 2010.
